Cake Stands

EAPG Cake stands were once called salvers or servers.  It was fashioned as a broad flat plate with a foot underneath. After 1800, the salver became associated with the serving of desserts.  Sometimes the salvers were stacked like a pyramid and could be comprised of two and up to five salvers.  They were graduated in diameter with the bottom being the largest and the top the smallest.  Each layer was filled with jellies, creams, sweetmeats, cookies, and tiny cakes.  Today a cake served on a beautiful cake plate adds elegance to any celebration.
