A EAPG compote is a long stemmed dish used for holding fruit,
nut, or candy. The word compote is French for mixture
and originates from the
17th century when the French combined whole or pieces of fruit in a
sugar syrup. To make
compote, whole
fruits are immersed in water and cooked with sugar and spices over gentle heat.
Other flavoring,
vanilla, lemon or cinnamon can be added for a different
taste. The fruit compote is often arranged
in a large compote
and served in individual dishes. Today compote dishes could hold cranberry sauce, chutney, or sauces and make a nice
addition to any table setting.
