Take a look at Reuzeit Emporium’s selection of antique and
vintage St. Patrick’s Day postcards. St Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in
1737 in Boston, Massachusetts
to mark the date when Saint Patrick died in 460 AD. St Patrick was born in Wales
and at the age of 16 he was kidnapped by a band of pirates and sold into slavery
in Ireland.
There he became a Christian and later a priest and he is given credit for
converting many people to Christianity.
His followers started wearing shamrocks on his feast day and this custom
turned into the wearing of the green. Now St Patrick’s Day has become a secular
holiday and on this day everybody is Irish!
